Tutorial: Felt Flower Pillow

Have any old boring throw pillows laying around?

If you answered "yes" then you may want to take a look at this tutorial.

Handmade felt flowers are a perfect way to add a little character to your old throw pillows. Not only are they fun and charming to look at, they cost next to nothing (felt is only about 25cents per sheet)!

This tutorial will show you how to make a felt flower pin to dress up your old shabby pillows. The pin is super convenient because it can be easily removed and replaced.

Cake Pops - Spring Flowers

The other day I decided to create my own spring inspired cake pops, seeing how Easter is only a few weeks away. If you are feeling a little confused because you have never heard the words "cake pops" before you should visit this site, (Bakeralla) because they are simply fabulous!

*Cake Pops are basically ground up cake pieces which are mixed with lots of yummy frosting and then dipped into chocolate and formed into various fascinating designs.

To make these cake pops a little more festive for Easter, I decided to use carrot cake with cream cheese frosting instead of the suggested chocolate and they turned out great! I'll be honest, the original design I had for the flowers looked a little different then how they ended up turning out. But, I haven't had much experience with the whole cake pop thing and I definitely learned a lot!

Wall Decor: Chalk Board - Take 2

Remember when I showed you all of those awesome chalk board walls? Well, although we couldn't actually paint a whole wall with chalk board paint (because we are currently renting), my husband and I got creative and came up with a fun solution.

We happen to have a whole lot of empty vintage frames, collected from thrift stores and yard sales. There is one fairly large frame that has been sitting in our closet collecting dust. But, after seeing so many fabulous chalkboard walls, we came up with the perfect solution for it...create our own framed chalk board.

I really think the chalk board idea is genius. Not only do you get a handy place to doodle and jot down notes, it also creates a unique wall decor solution. I really like the look of chalk boards used kitchens and thought it would be quite functional for jotting down recipes and meal ideas. So, I decided to hang ours on the back wall of our kitchen...I love how it turned out!

Although I hung my chalk board in the kitchen, this idea would work great for any room. I'm actually thinking about doing a smaller grouping of 3 to hang in my little boys bedroom. I thought it would be fun to let him draw his own art on it, and kid art always turns out so cute!

This Framed chalk board took very little time and money to put together, for the tutorial click below!

Home Decor: Vintage Desk/Table How-to

Here is the How-To I promised for the charming and inexpensive desk.  If you would also like to do the shelves, go Here to view my past How-To on the craft shelves (the same process and materials were used).

Note: This plan will make a table that is 4' long 30" high and 20" wide. If you need a different size you will need to alter your materials accordingly.

Home Decor: Simple Vintage Desk/Table

Big things have been going on at our house this week.  And by that I mean I finally convinced my husband to help me out with a rather large-ish project. The other day, I was sitting at our dinning room table, eating my morning cereal starring at our big blank wall and an idea came into my head. The empty space would be perfect for two things I was desperately in need of....a desk/work area and additional storage space.

So, what did I do?... I sketched out my plan (see picture below) while the idea was fresh in my head, then I pinned it to the wall for my husband to see.

He luckily agreed to help me with the project and yesterday that picture turned into this...

Pretty close to the original drawing right?

Well, I think it turned out great! I was so excited when it was all complete. I have had unpacked boxes of various tableware and decorative items sitting in our hallway waiting for a home, and they finally have one!

I know your dieing to see more pictures, so here you go...

We took step by step pictures of the whole project.

Vintage Frame Re-done

I'll be honest, our budget has been a little tight since we moved a few months ago.  We are usually fairly thrifty people anyway but not quite to the extent that we are now.  This Valentines Day we decided to give each other a $15 budget for gifts which can be a little tricky.

I found this awesome vintage picture frame at a local thrift shop and decided to spend my $15 wisely and do something both inexpensive and sentimental.  I ended up spending $2.50 on the frame, $8.00 to get a piece of glass cut for the frame, $1.50 to print the photos, and I used materials I already owned to make a boarder insert around the photos. The total cost came to about $11.00 and more importantly my husband loved it!

Clutter Managed

Do you have a room filled with unmanageable clutter? I didn't think so. But in-case you ever do, here is an inexpensive eye catching solution... a homemade shelf.

When we first moved into our new place, I was a little agitated when I discovered how little storage space there actually was.  Our spare room (or the storage/art/craft/music/guest room) was a complete disaster.  I have slowly been trying to figure out ways to store all of our non-daily essentials on a tight budget.
This shelf only cost about $12 to put together and little time to assemble.
