The hustle and bustle of the holidays have come to halt, which means I have a little more free time to work on some designs for my baby girl's nursery!
The first project I decided to concur was the homemade baby mobile...the poor girl has spent the last 3 months in a white crib, with white bedding, white walls, and nothing interesting to look at. But now she at least has a pretty mobile hanging above her crib, which will have to do until I decide what exactly I want to do with her 'accent wall.'
Although I am looking to add more pattern and color to the room, I still want the end result to look simple and peaceful...which is why I was so pleased with how the mobile turned out!
Keep reading to get the details and materials for this project...
The mobile was easy to make and uses very few materials which include...
Materials
12" needle point hoop
Thick thread
A long sewing needle
Scissors
5 pieces of paper (I used thick scrap-booking paper)
Ceiling hook - to hang mobile (not pictured)
Step 1. Cut and fold paper into 5 cranes. I used THIS step by step YouTube tutorial and found it very helpful!
Step 2. Temporarily hang your 'needle point hoop' so you can start to build your mobile (I hung mine from my dining room chandelier).
Step 3. Thread your sewing needle (with about 3' of thread) and tie a thick knot at the end of the thread. Then take the needle through the little hole on the underside of the crane. Pull the needle straight through the center of the crane.
Step 4. Pull the thread all the way through until the large knot hits the underside of the crane. You can choose to leave the knot showing (and cut off excess string) or pull the knot even further so it ends up inside of the crane. (when finished, leave the needle on the string).
Step 5. Now guide the needle through the crack of the 'needle point hoop' where the 2 wooden hoops meet together. Cut the needle free, but leave the slack so you can use it later when tying the mobile to the ceiling.
Step 6. Repeat previous steps until all cranes have been strung and hung (make sure to hang your cranes equal width apart). Adjust string heights as needed then gather up all the loose ends and tie them in 1 big knot. Then just screw in your ceiling hook and hang your mobile!
Oh my sweetness! I love it!

ReplyDeleteThis looks really elegant! My girls have one like this in their room – we had used paper cranes at our wedding as seating cards, and I strung up the extras to make a mobile for the changing table.
